Details

A sleep pillow and neck support in one - without the stiffness of a conventional cervical pillow.

The Contour Sleep Pillow is a variation on Shepherd's Dream's standard wool pillow, tufted across the surface to create a raised contour along the bottom edge. That contour nestles under the curve of the neck, keeping the cervical spine in alignment while the body of the pillow supports the head. For people who wake with neck stiffness, upper shoulder tension, or discomfort from pillows that either sit too flat or push the head too far forward, the difference is often immediate.

Like all of Shepherd's Dream's pillows, the fill is EcoWool batting - sourced from regional farms in California and Oregon, untreated, naturally hypoallergenic, and thermoregulating. The encasement is organic cotton sateen: smooth, durable, and breathable. Standard pillowcase size (20 x 25) fits any standard pillowcase.

Available in three fill weights that correspond to different neck support heights - 5, 6, or 7 inches - to match different body frames and sleep positions. The fill will compress 25-35% in the first six months of regular use. Made to order by hand in Northern California.

Sizing

Fill weight Neck support height Price  Best for
27 oz ~5 inches $34

Smaller frames, stomach sleepers

30 oz ~6 inches $40

Average frames, back sleepers

35 oz ~7 inches $46

Broader shoulders, side sleepers

How to choose:
Side sleepers: choose the 35 oz / 7-inch option. Your neck needs more height to bridge the gap between shoulder and head. Back sleepers: the 30 oz / 6-inch option works well for most. The contour sits at the base of the skull and cradles the neck without pushing the head forward.

How to use
Place the pillow with the tufted contour edge toward you - the raised section supports the neck, the flatter body of the pillow supports the head.

Side sleepers: the contour sits between the ear and shoulder, keeping the neck level.

Back sleepers: the contour nestles under the base of the skull, filling the natural curve of the cervical spine.

Use with a standard pillowcase. The contour edge will be visible through a pillowcase -this is normal and does not affect comfort.
Air in sunshine regularly to maintain loft and freshness.

Care
Do not machine wash. The wool batting will felt and the contour shape will be lost. Spot clean only with a damp cloth and a mild wool-safe soap. Allow to air dry completely before use.

Air in fresh sunshine regularly - once a season is ideal. Sunlight refreshes the wool and helps restore some loft after compression.
Use a washable pillow protector to keep it clean between airings.
