Four ingredients. Broad-spectrum mineral sun protection with the same tallow base as the rest of the Wild Mamas skincare range.

Most conventional sunscreens work by absorbing UV radiation using chemical filters -oxybenzone, avobenzone, octinoxate - that are absorbed into the bloodstream and have increasingly documented concerns around hormonal disruption and environmental impact. Mineral sunscreens take a different approach: they sit on the surface of the skin and physically reflect UV rays rather than absorbing them.


Non-nano zinc oxide is the active ingredient here. The non-nano particle size matters: standard zinc oxide particles are nano-sized, small enough to penetrate the skin and enter the bloodstream. Non-nano zinc oxide particles are too large to be absorbed - they stay on the surface where they work, without systemic exposure. Zinc oxide provides broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, is naturally soothing and anti-inflammatory, and is considered one of the safest sunscreen ingredients available for sensitive skin, children, and those seeking clean formulations.

The base is wild bison tallow - Regenerative Organic Certified, grass-fed and finished - which nourishes and supports the skin barrier while carrying the zinc oxide. Biodynamic olive oil adds its polyphenols and squalene for additional barrier support and hydration. Organic beeswax seals the formula and gives the balm its structure. Four ingredients, no fillers, no chemical UV filters, no synthetic fragrance.

How to Use:

Apply generously to all exposed skin before sun exposure.
Reapply every 2 hours, or after swimming or sweating.

Note: as a tallow-based mineral sunscreen, this balm may leave a slight white cast from the zinc oxide. This is normal for non-nano mineral sunscreens and can be reduced by warming a small amount between your palms before applying.

For face: apply a small amount and blend in gentle upward strokes. Start with less than you think you need - the balm is rich and a little goes a long way.

Not water-resistant indefinitely - reapply after water exposure.

Care

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
Tallow-based balms can soften in warm temperatures - this does not affect performance.
Use clean fingers or a spatula to preserve the integrity of the balm.
