Most children's pillows are filled with polyester - a petroleum-derived material that off-gasses volatile organic compounds and can harbour dust mites and mould in a way that natural fibres do not. Shepherd's Dream's Child's Sleep Pillow is sized and filled specifically for children aged 2 to 8: a 13" x 18" pillow filled with premium EcoWool batting, encased in organic cotton sateen, made to order by hand in Northern California. No synthetic materials, no chemical treatments, no flame retardants - wool is naturally fire resistant, which means the pillow passes flame tests without needing any chemical assistance.

The wool fill is thermoregulating and moisture-wicking - it keeps children comfortable through the night without the heat buildup and clamminess that polyester pillows are known for. It is naturally hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, making it a particularly good choice for children with allergies or sensitivities. And because it is made from natural materials, it will biodegrade - unlike a synthetic pillow that sits in landfill for centuries.

How to use
Suitable for children from approximately age 2, once a child has transitioned out of a cot and into a toddler or single bed.
Not recommended for children under 2 years old.

Use with a standard toddler or child's pillowcase, or with the optional washable organic cotton sateen cover included with the with-cover option.
Air in fresh sunshine regularly to refresh the wool fill and naturally deodorize.
The fill will compress 30-40% in the first six months of regular use - this is normal.

Care
The pillow insert: spot clean only with a damp cloth and mild wool-safe soap. Allow to air dry completely.
Air in fresh sunshine regularly - every season at minimum. Sunshine naturally deodorizes and disinfects wool.
Do not machine wash or tumble dry the insert.

The washable organic cotton sateen cover (included with the with-cover option): machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Lay flat or tumble dry on low.
A washable pillow protector used over the insert (under the pillowcase) is strongly recommended for children's pillows - it keeps the insert clean between deep airings and extends the life of the pillow considerably.
