A Q&A WITH Jill King
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and why you started Honeybee Hippie?
Health and wellness have always been at the center of my life. With a deep love for natural living, clean ingredients, and old-school remedies, I’ve spent years drawn to the idea of creating things from scratch, especially when it comes to what we put on our skin. A few years ago, after learning about the incredible benefits of tallow, I started making my own skincare products. I wanted something truly nourishing and safe. Not just for me, but for my kids and grandbabies. I was tired of guessing in the so-called "natural" skincare aisle and was searching for something that actually delivered real, visible results with an ingredient list that was truly natural.
That curiosity, combined with a desire to return to nature’s simplicity, is what led to the birth of Honeybee Hippie. It started in my kitchen with a handful of clean ingredients and a lot of curiosity.
Before all this, I worked as a physical therapist and even owned my own clinic, but eventually stepped away to focus on raising our growing family. I’ve been married for 27 years, and we have four incredible kids ages 15 to 24 as well as a sweet 2½-year-old grandson and a baby granddaughter on the way. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and Honeybee Hippie is really just an extension of that: rooted in care, inspired by nature, and made with intention.
How does the natural world support your modern life? In what ways do you stay connected to nature, and how does that influence both your personal life and the way you run your business?
To me, nature is everything. It’s God's creation and the ultimate source of healing, calm, and inspiration. There’s nothing quite like stepping outside to reset and reconnect. Whether it’s gardening, walking, going to the beach, or spending time in the mountains, I make sure to be in nature every day. It’s essential for my physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
This deep connection to nature is the heart of Honeybee Hippie. I carefully source natural ingredients—clays, salts, herbs, oils, and animal fats that are as close to their original form as possible. I believe nature already gives us everything we need, and I love encouraging others to explore and use these powerful ingredients too.
With so many beautiful natural and organic ingredients out there, how do you decide which ones to include in your products?
I agree, there are truly so many incredible herbs and oils to choose from. I spend a lot of time researching the benefits and traditional uses of ingredients. I look at the holistic benefits of the herbs and also consult with holistic doctors, estheticians, and herbalists. I’m always looking for ingredients that are effective, healing, and truly found naturally.
Do you have a consistent daily AM and/or PM routine? What are they?
I wouldn’t say I’m a strict routine follower, but I definitely have daily rituals that ground me. In the mornings, I start with a prayer of gratitude and ask for guidance through my day. I usually spritz my face with a hydrosol, then head outside for some sun, light stretching, and lymphatic drainage movements. I’ll also dip my face in an ice bath, sip on hot herbal tea or take a lemon/salt/olive oil shot followed by mineral water.
Breakfast is always protein-rich—often including raw cheese, eggs, and something nourishing like egg yolk matcha or coffee with collagen, pearl powder, and colostrum. Then it’s a mix of working on Honeybee Hippie products, answering messages, prepping meals, and being there for my family. Sundays are special—we go to church and spend time together at the beach, fishing, or grabbing lunch and coffee.
Are there any particular foods or botanicals that align with your personal self-care practice?
Yes! I prioritize nutrient-dense, whole foods such as pasture-raised meats, wild game (my husband is a hunter and fisherman), raw dairy, animal fats, organic fruits, vegetables, and properly prepared grains like sourdough. I use mineral-rich salt and tons of herbs and spices in my cooking. Our family also loves a great organic coffee.
Some of my favorite botanicals are rose, calendula, chamomile, lavender, marshmallow root, cinnamon, saffron, and butterfly pea flower. I believe that what we put in our bodies and on our skin are deeply interconnected—everything works together to support our overall health and radiance.
What are your favorite brands on Baile? Are there any like-minded brands on Baile whose work you admire or personally use?
I love Baile! It’s such a beautifully curated space for truly natural and mindful products. I use The Fullest saffron lattes often and love slow cooking in my VitaClay cooker. I’m also really excited to try more products, especially the saffron tallow & beeswax candles, and circadian light bulbs. The community Baile has created is so inspiring.
What inspires your approach to creating products, and how do you ensure they stay true to the heart of Honeybee Hippie?
I’m inspired by simplicity, ingredients that truly heal, and by the desire to offer real relief to people who feel like they’ve “tried everything.” I hear from so many who struggle with dry skin, eczema, acne or just a lack of confidence in their skin—and I’ve seen time and again how returning to nature’s wisdom can bring incredible results.
I don’t chase trends or use ingredients just because they’re popular. If something isn’t truly natural or beneficial for the body as a whole, it doesn’t make the cut. To me, it’s not about chasing wrinkle free skin. It’s about cultivating health and vitality from the inside out and the outside in!
